The second in a series of workshops, “News and Terrorism: Communicating in a Crisis,” takes place Tuesday (Sept. 21) at a hotel in Kansas City.
The workshops are being put on by the Radio and Television News Directors Foundation along with the National Academies and the U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security. Their goal is to examine communication during an emergency and provide scientific background info on potential terrorist threats and guidance for journalists on how to prepare for such coverage.
Each workshop features a scenario in which a small group of journalists, government officials and experts react to a simulated terrorist incident – chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear.
Future workshops are set for Portland, Ore. on Oct. 14, Philadelphia on Oct. 26 and Miami on Dec. 9.
