KBS World Radio Goes Hybrid

Broadcaster uses DRM/AM transmission via WRN

Seoul, South Korea-based KBS World Radio will provide a one-hour daily transmission in German using analog-digital 20kHz simulcast mode of the Digital Radio Mondiale system. WRN Broadcast will facilitate the delivery.

Beginning Oct. 27, the show will broadcast from 2000 to 2100 local time. Listeners with a DRM receiver should tune to 5875 kHz, and those with a conventional set can listen at 5885 kHz.

The transmission, targeted at Germany, Austria and Switzerland, will be made from Sofia, Bulgaria where WRN Broadcast first installed DRM transmission hardware in 2003.

The station is owned by Spaceline, which has subsequently invested in further DRM equipment. WRN Broadcast also operated a local trial DRM transmission in the London area on 26 MHz.

KBS broadcasts globally in 11 languages, and has been in existence for 60 years.
