KCRW Expands Music Podcasting With Video Offerings of Live Shows

Beginning Tuesday (Jan. 10), public station KCRW in southern California is offering video podcasts of live sessions performed by music bands on its show “Morning Becomes Eclectic.”
It said video podcasts will be made available from iTunes, AOL Music and its own web site and available for free from the Podcast section of the iTunes Music Store. The first ones are by Kate Earl and Si Sé; later this month it will post a video podcast of a recent Arctic Monkeys’ live session. Each podcast will be available for a two-week window and new ones will be posted case by case.
“KCRW began offering podcasts of ‘Morning Becomes Eclectic’ live sessions in August 2005, with the unsigned Los Angeles band Goldspot,” it stated.
“The exposure quadrupled traffic on the band’s website, not just on the day they performed at KCRW – a common occurrence – but in the weeks that followed.” It said the show’s podcasts receive something approaching 20,000 downloads each week.
The show started with a one-camera shot of bands in the studio and is now a more sophisticated four-camera, live-edit shoot.
