The FCC has appointed several radio EAS experts to its newest committee on emergency alerts.
The roster of the Commercial Mobile Service Alert Advisory Committee includes Art Botterell of Contra Costa County, Calif., Ann Arnold, Texas Association of Broadcasters, Patrick Roberts, Florida Association of Broadcasters, William Wertz, Michigan Association of Broadcasters and Kelly Williams, NAB Science and Technology.
Eddie Fritts, former head of NAB and now head of The Fritts Group, is representing Global Security Systems for the committee. The GSS First Alert System uses radio station FM infrastructure to deliver emergency alert message that can be received by mobile devices.
SpectraRep Senior Vice President Edward Czarnecki is also on the committee. SpectraRep is working with public TV stations and coordinating a FEMA pilot using its AlertManager system.
The FCC advisory committee will develop and recommend technical standards for transmitting mobile emergency alerts as recommended in the Warning, Alert and Response Network Act.
