KGO is getting juice from the sun.

The San Francisco news-talk AM says on its Web site it "becomes the first major commercial broadcast media outlet in California to reach its listeners by harnessing the power of the sun and reducing its use of the power grid."

It showed off a new solar power system with an event featuring Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.

"Begun last winter, the solar installation, located at KGO Radio's transmitter near the Dumbarton Bridge, leverages this high-visibility location to call attention to the environmental benefits of solar power," the station said.

"It will not only reduce KGO's daily load on the power grid, it will serve as an ongoing test facility for emerging solar technology."
