Beasley Broadcast Group’s Las Vegas radio station KSTJ(FM) is running live audio and traffic data through a Broadcast Electronics HD Radio transmitter in conjunction with the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week.
KSTJ(FM) is the first commercial station to convert to HD Radio in Las Vegas, and the first in the nation to employ datacasting for navigational purposes.
“Beasley Broadcast Group believes firmly in the power of local radio and feels HD Radio represents an important aspect of radio’s future. Not only does HD Radio bring amazing quality to programming, but it also provides unique, new data and information opportunities,” said George G. Beasley, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Beasley Broadcast Group, Inc.
Beasley Broadcast Group is broadcasting with a Broadcast Electronics FMi 201 HD Radio transmitter, BE FXi 250 exciter, and BE FSi 10 HD Radio signal generator into a three-bay Shively 6813-3 antenna separate from the main analog broadcast. The station is broadcasting HD Radio under an experimental permit, pending the FCC’s rulemaking on the use of separate antennas for digital service. At the studio, KSTJ(FM) has a Broadcast Electronics AudioVault digital audio system upgraded with the HD Radio Broadcast Multimedia Language protocol.
