KUOP On, Now Off, the Block

Seeing real estate prices going ever higher, the University of the Pacific has taken KUOP(FM) off the block and says it will put the facility back on the market within the year.
That’s according to California’s Central Valley Business Times, which quotes the Stockton facility’s manager as saying the university isn’t happy with the offers it has had since putting the station up for sale last fall.
KUOP’s 7,000-watt coverage area includes Stockton and Modesto, Calif.
“The Stockton and Modesto radio markets were recently ranked among the top 10 fastest-growing markets in the nation in terms of radio advertising expenditures,” said Patrick Cavanaugh, vice president for business and finance, in a statement to the paper. “The strong population and economic growth in KUOP’s service area will cause the station’s value to continue to increase.”
Capital Public Radio in Sacramento will continue to operate the station in the meantime.
The university is selling the 59-year-old station to help pay for construction of a $20 million biological sciences center and a $30 million university center, reported the Sacramento Business Journal.
