LAB Honors Broadcasting 'Giants' at Annual Luncheon

The Library of American Broadcasting, located in College Park, Md. at the University of Maryland, will honor 17 radio and television pioneers at its second annual “Giants of Broadcasting” luncheon on Sept. 15 in New York’s Grand Hyatt Hotel.
Among the nominees are Roone Arledge, former president, ABC News and president, ABC Sports; radio programming pioneer Ed McLaughlin, former president, ABC Radio Networks; the late TV and radio actor Tony Randall; and late entertainer Danny Thomas and his daughter Marlo Thomas.
“It will be our good fortune to convey our admiration and gratitude to those individuals who continue to grace our lives,” remarked Lucille Luongo, president and CEO of the Library of American Broadcasting Foundation, “and to honor those who are no longer with us. All are legendary for their contributions to broadcasting, and this occasion is designed to keep their example – and that of their fellow pioneers – forever before us.”
Additionally, the ceremony will include a special presentation honoring former president Ronald Reagan, who began his career in 1932 as a radio sports broadcaster for WOC in Davenport, Iowa. A framed copy of his tribute will be displayed in the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library.
Tickets for the luncheon are $500 each. Contact Jessica Chaikin at (212) 685-4233 for information on table purchases, commemorative journal ads and event sponsorship.
