Lamke Closes on 100 kW Acquisition

Sale of KBAJ by Red Rock had been pending, and station is under an LMA

Red Rock Radio has closed on the sale of one of its radio stations. This is FM outlet KBAJ in Deer River, Minn., which becomes part of Lamke Broadcasting Inc.

It is a 100 kW station broadcasting on 105.5 MHz; it sold for $200,000. Since New Year’s it had already been operating under a time brokerage arrangement, airing classic rock as J105 The Thunder.

Lamke Broadcasting, headed by Jim Lamke, has two stations in Grand Rapids, Minn. When the sale was originally announced, Lamke said on its website that the new J105 enjoys a signal that reaches into five counties.

Red Rock, headed by Kathy Lau and Shawn Skramstad, has been shedding radio holdings. It still has three other stations in Minnesota, with an application to sell KZIO(FM) in Duluth to Minnesota Public Radio.

Kalil & Co. was the broker.
