Licensed FMs on the Upswing

The number of licensed FM stations in the country is rising a tad.
Of the total 27,556 licensed stations as of the end of March, 13,748 were full-powered radio stations. Of those, 6,243 were commercial FMs and 2,746 were noncommercial FMs.
That compares to 6,231 commercial FMs and 2,672 noncommercial FMs respectively at the end of December 2005.
By the end of the first quarter, 712 LPFMs were licensed; that compares to 675 by December of last year.
The figures for FM translators and boosters rose to 4,049 by the end of the first quarter of this year, up from 3,995 by last December.
