Consolidation and government-mandated free political airtime will be hot topics in this new session of Congress. That’s what NAB SVP John Orlando told radio board members this week at its winter meeting. He also said radio advertising for alcoholic beverages and prescription drugs could draw the attention of lawmakers in 2003. Board members directed association staff and members of the NAB Copyright Task Force to make reform of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act a priority in the 108th Congress.
Orlando is the acting head of NAB’s lobbying arm following Jim May’s resignation to become president of the Air Transport Association. The board passed honoring May, who had been NAB’s EVP Government Relations since 1988.
