LM Radio Trials on MobileTV’s DMB Platform

Mozambique station goes mobile in South Africa

T&W Management Pty Ltd, owner of Mozambique-based LM Radio and MobileTV Pty Ltd recently signed an agreement to allow LM Radio programs to be carried on MobileTV’s DMB platform. DMB is a digital multimedia platform allowing for the transmission of audio and video.

Under the accord LM Radio, originating from Maputo in Mozambique, which targets listeners 40 years and older, will be one of the anchor radio stations on the new mobile digital platform (still awaiting final approval).

The LM Radio has been broadcasting on FM in Mozambique and on free-to-air satellite and the Internet since Dec. 2009. South African-based LM Radio fans, earlier this year, organized a petition, requesting LM Radio to obtain a license to broadcast in South Africa.

“This agreement between LM Radio and Mobile TV ensures that this new DMB service has compelling content of a high quality music mix, which is sorely missing in current programing in South Africa,” said Mothobi Mutloatse, chairman of Mobile TV. “The mature age group is at long last catered for by LM Radio,” he said.

MobileTV is currently operating in Gauteng, South Africa on a test license. Once a permanent license has been awarded by ICASA, MobileTV will provide television, visual radio and interactive services through digital mobile devices countrywide.
