Local U.K. DAB Network to Expand

Major expansion across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland to begin in March

The government has released plans for the expansion of local DAB networks in the United Kingdom.

The framework agreement is between the Department for Culture, Media & Sport, BBC, commercial local DAB multiplex operators, Arqiva and Ofcom. It is a non-legally binding document that sets out the obligations of those parties from 2015–2016.

The program of work to build out the local DAB network is scheduled to begin in March, and, when completed, will extend local DAB coverage from around 72 percent of homes at present to circa 90 percent of U.K. households by late 2016.
