Sam Hall, news director and morning newscaster of WQXR(FM) in New York, is retiring. He has been with the station for more than a decade and has worked in news radio for more than 50 years.
According to bio material from the stations, Hall, born in Chicago and raised in Elkhart, Ind., entered broadcasting at age 13 when he began filling in for his minister father on his radio program. The gig launched a career that included positions at stations in New York such as WNEW(AM), where he served as news director and anchor, and WOR as part of the “Rambling With Gambling” morning program. Additionally, he worked for KLAC(AM) in Los Angeles and CNN Radio in Atlanta.
Hall’s awards over the years include the Town Hall and Ohio State awards for documentary production; this year he was honored by the Tristate Catholic Committee on Radio and Television.
Hall’s last day is June 30. WQXR expects to announce a successor shortly.
