LPFM In Capitol Hill Year-end Wrangle

LPFM In Capitol Hill Year-end Wrangle

The amount of new LPFM stations the FCC could eventually authorize continued to hang in the balance Friday and Congress and Republican Congressional leaders came to a parting of the ways over year-end appropriations measures and left uncertain when lawmakers would finish their work.
Language to mandate the FCC restore full channel protections to existing stations when it allocates licenses for new LPFMs was included in a spending measure passed by the House Thursday.
The language is also included in a Senate version of the appropriation.
But President Clinton threatened to veto the bill “for not doing enough for middle-class people on health care and education.”
