Radio has chopped a minute off commercial loads, according to broadcast data company Media Monitors.
The company put out a study comparing spot loads on approximately 1,000 stations in the top 50 markets, looking at changes since 2004.
Radio spot breaks had averaged 8 minutes 30 seconds per hour. Media Monitors now puts the figure at 7-1/2 minutes.
The use of 30-second spots is up, from 13% of spots on major-market stations to 21% two years later. The units per hour fell from 9 to 8.4.
