Malaysia’s Astro Radio Expands With Lawo

New Lawo suite features Compact Engines, Virutal Consoles and Nova 29 router

Offering news and traffic reports to more than 12 million listeners, Malaysian-based Astro Radio issued a mandate to update and expand its facilities that will also help it plan for the future. The station decided to go with Lawo’s Virtual Radio Console for its new studios.

The complete system from Lawo features DSP-based Compact Engines and touchscreen Virtual Consoles, which are powered by Lawo Vistool software. Astro’s legacy gear is connected to the new system via a Nova 29 router from Lawo.

Astro Radio Vice President of Engineering and Technology Bala Murali Subramaney says the new virtual consoles allows for the easy construction of custom mixing interfaces. This includes the ability to route and combine external sources, mix audio, record and edit interviews and then send productions to air. He also says that Astro runs 10 studios off five of Lawo’s Compact Engines and can use the Virtual Console software on multiple PCs.
