‘Marketplace’ Rebrands

Business/economic program changes to reach mobile listeners

American Public Media’s “Marketplace” program has updated its website as it rebrands its public image.

The site features a new HTML5 audio player for access to full programs and individual stories, using any device.

The business/economic program that airs on public stations is launching its new brand identity across digital channels including on marketplace.org, on Facebook and Twitter.

Marketplace is close to turning 25. There are actually four programs in the suite: Marketplace with Kai Ryssdal, Marketplace Morning Report with David Brancaccio, Marketplace Money and Marketplace Tech Report. They air on 500 public radio affiliates.

Marketplace content is also available at iHeartRadio, Swell, Slacker Radio, Stitcher Radio, Flipboard, LinkedIn, Google Currents and iTunes.

The new tagline for the brand is “Between economics and life.” Marketplace VP/Executive Producer Deborah Clark says given the shift in how the public consumes news to mobile, executives and programmers knew the brand needed an update. Listeners “will have access to our content whether they’re on public radio, on a desktop, tablet mobile app or anywhere else.”

A new ad campaign ramps up in August.
