Republican Commissioner Kevin Martin, sometimes at odds with fellow GOP appointee Michael Powell, believes the agency should not delay action on new media ownership rules.
Martin stated, “Many of the rulemakings incorporated into this proceeding have been pending for over a year. … The commission has not acted on this rule in any of its biennial reviews since the biennial provision was enacted in 1996. It is past time for the commission to act.” Republican Commissioner Kathleen Abernathy also opposes delay.
Tuesday, FCC Commissioners Jonathan Adelstein and Michael Copps, both Democrats, asked for the commission to delay its planned June 2 vote on media ownership rules.
