A memorial service for Bend Radio Group engineer Dave Young is set for Friday, April 2. Young died of cancer at age 57.
Bend Radio Group is a five-station, private family-owned group based in Bend, serving Central Oregon; its stations include KMGX(FM), KSJJ(FM), KXIX(FM), KRXF (FM) and KICE(AM).
According to group News Director R.L. Garrigus, Young also was the engineer for several other radio stations in the southeast, including Bend sister station WLOQ(FM) in Orlando, Fla.
“He was a great human being, a wonderful man and a tremendous engineer. He will be missed,” Garrigus wrote in an e-mail to Radio World.
According to a death notice in the Bend Bulletin, Young’s interests included electrical design, electrical engineering, broadcast engineering and the performing arts. He worked for other companies over the years including McDonnell Douglas Corp., Sperry Corp., Harris Corp. and Murphy Lighting Systems. Young also owned Theatre Support Systems of Orlando, Fla.
He is survived by his wife Nancy of 31 years and daughter Jessica.
The Friday service will be at Niswonger-Reynolds Funeral Home.
