Mississippi Broadcasters Help Hurricane Victims

Broadcasters continue financial efforts to help Hurricane Katrina victims recover. The Mississippi Association of Broadcasters said it has raised $25,000 to rebuild radio and TV stations and help personnel displaced by the storm.
The Mississippi Broadcasters Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund will aid those most severely affected by the disaster.
“We have people who have lost everything … cars, their homes and belongings. Some are living in rental cars at the stations. This has been a devastating event,” said Jackie Lett, president of the association. “The needs of some of our stations are overwhelming. We’ll help with their rebuilding as much as we can.”
Lett said some stations along Mississippi’s coast, from Biloxi and Gulfport and smaller cities, suffered severe damage.
“This will be a long-term effort to help our friends in their time of need,” Lett said.
Those wishing to donate should make checks payable to “Mississippi Broadcasters Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund.” Mail checks to: Mississippi Association of Broadcasters, 855 S. Pear Orchard Road, Suite 403, Ridgeland, Miss. 39157.
