The Mentoring and Inspiring Women in Radio Group has teamed up with Talentmaster’s Morning Show Boot Camp to honor an on-air personality with a new award.
“The inaugural MIW Airblazer Award gives us another avenue with which to build awareness and recognition of all the immensely talented women leading the way as local and syndicated on air personalities,” said MIW Radio Group Spokesperson Kay Olin.
The MIW Airblazer Award will be bestowed annually to deserving radio talent. The first recipient will be Ellen K, who co-hosts “On Air with Ryan Seacrest” on iHeartMedia’s KIIS(FM), Los Angeles. It will be presented at the “Women’s Forum” session during at the 27th annual Morning Show Boot Camp, held Aug. 6–7, in Chicago.
“For over 20 years we’ve had the pleasure of spotlighting women on the air during our annual ‘Women’s Forum,’” MSBC founder and host Don Anthony. “To make MSBC the official home of this new award is indeed an honor and another step forward in recognizing the true star-power and inspiration women such as Ellen K and others bring to our industry.”
Ellen K’s radio career began at Purdue University. After one fill-in shift behind the mic as an intern at a local radio station, she was hooked. She switched her major from veterinary science to radio/TV/film. Subsequent jobs would take her from Indiana to San Diego, San Francisco and Los Angeles. She regularly appears on “The Talk” and hosts “Ellen K’s Inside Hollywood” on the KTLA evening news. In May of 2012, she was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
