The Minority Media and Telecommunications Council is hosting its annual forum around what the group sees as broadband and telecom inequities.
Called the Broadband and Social Justice Summit, MMTC hopes the event will spark action on proposed policy and give a voice to the MMTC Broadband & Social Justice Blog.
This yearʼs summit will include the first ever “Former FCC Chairs’ Roundtable,” featuring Michael Copps, Reed Hundt, Michael Powell and Dick Wiley. The former FCC chairs plan to provide insight on “how building broadband infrastructure creates jobs, transforms the American workforce and energizes 21st century entrepreneurship,” according to MMTC.
The FCC Chairs’ Roundtable is on Thursday, Jan. 17, from 10–11 a.m.; it immediately follows the FCC Commissioners’ Breakfast Roundtable, which goes from 8:30–9:45 a.m. and features current FCC Commissioners Mignon Clyburn and Ajit Pai and former Commissioner Deborah Taylor Tate. FCC Commissioner Robert McDowell can be found on Wednesday, Jan. 16, from 3:15– 4:15 p.m. at the panel titled: How to Generate Diverse Participation in the Telecom and Internet Spaces.
Immediately following the summit at the Westin Georgetown Hotel, the National Association of Black Journalists will be holding its 2013 Hall of Fame Induction Reception and Ball at the Newseum in Washington. Summit attendees will be eligible for discounted tickets to the NABJ event.
