Pioneer Electronics says 16 more Android-based smartphones are compatible with AppRadio Mode in-dash receivers, including models from Samsung, HTC, Motorola and Sony. According to the company, that means Android users can enjoy music, apps and information that’s on their phone, on the display of their Pioneer receiver.

The consumer electronics manufacturer debuted the new AppRadio 3 in-dash technology platform in May with iPhone 5 compatibility. AppRadio turns any car into a “connected” vehicle and includes MirrorLink compatibility, Siri Eyes Free and Google Voice Recognition and Bluetooth hands-free calling, audio streaming and wireless control of compatible devices, says the company.

Compatibility with current and newly added Android smartphones allows drivers to use many apps directly from the screen of Pioneer products that include AppRadio Mode, including AppRadio 3 (SPH-DA210 and SPH-DA110) and AppRadio 2 smartphone receivers, AVH-X8500BHS DVD receiver, and AVIC-X950BH and AVIC-Z150BH navigation receivers.

Connecting the newly compatible smartphones requires Pioneer’s CD-AH200C Android Connection Kit which is sold separately. The original Samsung Connector (EPL-FU10BEBSTD) is also required for the Samsung Galaxy Note II, Galaxy S3 and Galaxy S4 in addition to the Android Connection Kit.

More than 40 Android devices are compatible with AppRadio Mode receivers. For more information and a list of compatible smartphone models, see here.
