More Time Granted to Comment on Mandatory Program Recordings

Broadcasters and other groups have more time to file comments with the FCC about the commission’s proposal to require stations to keep program recordings so it can better enforce indecency and obscenity rules.
Originally, public comments were due July 30 and replies by Aug. 30. The agency granted a request for more time filed by the Arizona and Kentucky Broadcaster Associations. The groups asked for a 45-day extension to compile cost estimates pertaining to the proposals as well as consider other potential implications associated with the rulemaking.
The FCC believes a 4-week extension is adequate, especially for small broadcasters, “who have a significant stake in this proceeding,” stated the agency in its decision.
Now, comments to MB Docket 04-232 are due Aug. 27 and replies are due Sept. 27.
