Minnesota Public Radio has closed on its purchase of 50 kW FM station KZIO in Two Harbors, Minn., from Red Rock Radio Corp. The price was $300,000.
MPR plans to convert the rock music station to noncommercial. MPR, headed by Jon McTaggart, has more than 40 stations in and around the state (see current footprint in map at bottom from the MPR website).
Red Rock is headed by Kathy Lau and has been selling off its radio holdings; it has applications filed to sell its remaining stations KTRB(AM), KQDS(AM) and WWAX(FM).
Kalil & Co. was the exclusive broker on the sale.
In March, Red Rock Radio closed on an earlier sale of 100 kW FM outlet KBAJ in Deer River, Minn., which became part of Lamke Broadcasting Inc. at a $200,000 price tag.
