Radio’s been getting plenty of negative headlines this year, most recently in publications like Forbes and Barron’s.
Seeking to highlight good news about radio, the NAB has added a radio-oriented newsletter to its PR efforts.
The first issue of “Radio Rave” went out this week via e-mail to NAB members, Wall Street analysts, ad buyers and trade journalists. Spokesman Dennis Wharton said the newsletter likely will be issued twice a month. NAB is encouraging radio groups to forward the newsletter to their employees.
Items in the first issue included a quote from an Esquire magazine story about the re-emergence of alternative rock radio; plans by Cox Radio and Entercom Communications to convert stations to HD Radio; Clear Channel’s spot reduction move; a radio campaign by Ford; and statistics. (Example: “There are now an all-time high 470 all-sports radio stations on air. That’s a nearly 250% increase in just the last decade, reports the just-released 13th Edition M Street Directory.”)
NAB has other e-newsletters including one about public service offerings of broadcasters.
