NAB Beefs Up Radio Show Tech

Broadcast association partners with SBE on technical sessions for fall event

New for the upcoming radio show, this year the SBE is partnering with NAB on its technical program.

Produced by NAB Labs in cooperation with the SBE, the technical portion of the upcoming show in Indianapolis will cover developments in hybrid radio, which includes the NextRadio app and HD Radio, as well as AM, focusing on the latest in all-digital AM HD Radio testing. All-digital AM testing results, “will determine the feasibility of an all-digital future” for AM broadcasters, according to NAB.

The labs plans a “high-level” discussion of hybrid radio implementation, particularly the intersection of the Internet and broadcast, and so-called “backchannel” ROI opportunities from stations that are doing it.

Just as with the spring show, engineers will have a chance to further their SBE certification. This concept is new to the radio show. At the September event, NAB Labs and the SBE will offer an extended program including intermediate to advanced instruction for engineers to address the impact of information technology on radio infrastructure.

Texas A&M University DOE Wayne Pacena will present “IT for Radio Engineers — IP Networking: When to Route and When to Switch.”

The Radio Show, produced by NAB and RAB, is Sept. 10–12.
