NAB Education Foundation Honors Station Service Winners

NAB Education Foundation Honors Station Service Winners

The NAB Education Foundation named its annual Service to America Awards. Winners will be honored at an event in June in Washington that recognizes community service by local broadcasters.
For radio, the winners are WBAL(AM), Baltimore for its “Radio Kids Campaign,” a year-round effort to raise money for needy children. Recognition also went to WLTL(FM), LaGrange, Ill. for “Radio ECHO” (Every Child Has Opportunities). WLTL provides an in-house station devoted to the idea that sick kids get well faster when stimulated with music and alternative stress-reducing therapies.
A Partnership Award goes to KLOS(FM), Los Angeles for its annual blood drive with the American Red Cross, which NAB says set a record for a multi-day, multi-site blood drive – 6,250 units of blood collected.
WQCS(FM), Fort Pierce, Fla., won an award for its hurricane plan which proved crucial in providing wall-to-wall coverage and citizen outreach during the spate of hurricanes that hit Florida last year.
The 2005 Crystal Radio Award winners, previously announced at NAB2005 in Las Vegas April 19, will be recognized for their community service.
