NAB Favors Relaxation of Radio, Other Ownership Limits

NAB rejected calls to reduce current local radio ownership limits and instead favors continued easing.

In the ownership proceeding, NAB also said FCC studies generally demonstrate a “lack of harm” that would result and said benefits would be gained from allowing local broadcasters to adopt “more economically viable ownership structures.”

The group cited the cross-ownership ban in particular, saying that allowing an entity to own both a newspaper and a broadcast station in a town is in the public interest and promotes the commission’s goals of competition, diversity and localism.
