NAB Pushes Petition to Make Satellite Radio National-Only

NAB is urging stations to file comments at the FCC on the association’s petition to get the agency to specifically prohibit satellite digital radio from airing local programming. NAB points out in an appeal to stations that XM Satellite Radio’s grassroots efforts to get subscribers to write in have garnered more than 25,000 comments opposing the NAB’s position – and only two comments in favor of NAB.
In suggested talking points, NAB states, “It is clear from the comments they filed in opposition to the NAB petition that XM and Sirius view the sky as the limit – with technology to continue to ‘localize’ their services (so) they can make their formats virtually undistinguishable from local radio.”
The reply comment deadline is Monday, June 21.
