NAB Recognizes Fraunhofer Technology

Dialogue Enhancement technology wins NAB Technology Innovation Award

Multimedia technology developer Fraunhofer IIS was the recipient of an NAB Technology Innovation Award at the NAB Show in Las Vegas for its Dialogue Enhancement Technology for radio and TV broadcast use.

According to a release from Fraunhofer, the technology allows “radio listeners and TV viewers to control audio volumes of dialogues and to tailor the sounds to their liking.”

Harald Popp, head of the Multimedia Realtime Systems department at Fraunhofer IIS, stated, “Dialogue Enhancement nicely complements our HE-AAC audio codec which is already widely used in broadcast and streaming… Whereas HE-AAC enables the efficient transmission of high-quality audio, Dialogue Enhancement dramatically increases the speech intelligibility which is one of the most demanded features by TV and radio audiences.”

A release noted that the technology has been used experimentally at the Wimbledon tennis tournament and was demonstrated at the 2012 NAB Show by Fraunhofer.
