NAB and Saga Communications have asked the FCC to extend the public comment period for the rule making on the definition of a radio market not located in an Arbitron Metro.
The commission opened the rule making when it passed the new radio ownership rules, seeking information on what factors should be considered. The comment deadline is now Sept. 4; NAB and Saga have requested a 45-day extension.
The commission seeks information on whether it should rely on pre-existing definitions such as the Metropolitan/Micropolitan Statistical Areas or Cellular Market Areas. NAB is assessing the impact that adopting these definitions might have on radio clusters. NAB is also studying whether it’s possible to create a more suitable definition specifically for radio.
