Harris Corp. is presenting the new ZX5000 transmitter during the 2008 NAB Show.
The ZX5000 is a compact 5 kW single-rack solution for analog FM and HD Radio transmission. Tri-mode operation allows on-the-fly switching between analog FM, digital-only HD Radio or FM/HD Radio common application operation, and also facilitates upgrading to HD Radio.
As with other Harris ZX systems, three exciters are available: the FlexStar HDX-FM for HD Radio multicasting, the MicroMax 30 W analog exciter and the Harris Digit CD digital exciter.
The ZX5000 can also be equipped with the Harris WEB Remote option for IP-based control and monitoring.
According to Harris Broadcast Communications President Tim Thorsteinson, the Harris ZX5000 offers a cost-effective point of entry to HD Radio broadcasting for medium- to large-market broadcasters worldwide.
“Large-market stations have taken notice of ZX transmitters as reliable back-ups for high-power transmitters, and the higher power level of the ZX5000 builds on that reputation for large and major market broadcasters,” Thorsteinson said.
