NAB’s Lombardo Rails Against ‘Indecency Disconnect’

NAB Joint Board Chairman Philip Lombardo, CEO of Citadel Communications Co., told attendees at a Media Institute event that in his 50 years as a broadcaster, he’s never seen more concern among his colleagues than he does now over the government crackdown on indecency.
He said the NAB Task Force on the subject would soon have a proposal, indicating, “Responsible self-regulation is what we are about.”
But in general on the indecency issue, he said in comments prepared for the event, “Broadcasters today are living in a state of tremendous uncertainty. The FCC’s inconsistent application of indecency rules – coupled with concern over a small number of what some would call ‘tasteless’ programs – has prompted unprecedented anxiety at every level of our business.”
