Cumulus Media is bringing its Nash country music station branding to the Motor City. Cumulus-owned WDRQ(FM), previously a “Doug” adult hits station, has flipped to the Nash brand/format. It’s currently playing country Christmas music.
A country music format in Detroit is not the stretch it might initially appear to be. CBS Radio’s WYCD(FM) was last year’s Academy of Country Music’s Major Market Station of the Year and it’s not the only country music station in the market.
Cumulus co-COO and EVP John Dickey said, “Country is hugely popular in Detroit and the surrounding communities and we couldn’t be more excited to bring listeners and advertisers Nash FM 93.1.”
Cumulus has plans to ultimately operate 60 Nash format stations.
