NATE Issues Tower Climber Safety Guide

Third edition adds new safety references

The National Association of Tower Erectors has issued the third edition of its “NATE Tower Climber Fall Protection Training Standard,” also called NATE CTS.

Last updated in 2008, “the new edition includes updated references to the ANSI Z359 Fall Protection Code and Z490.1 Criteria for Accepted Practices in Safety, Health and Environmental Training standard. The updated NATE CTS also includes additional terminology in the definitions section of the document,” according to a release.

NATE explains that the guide is designed to establish “establish the minimum requirements to which all tower climbers should be trained.”

NATE Chairwoman Pat Cipov said, “The Climber Training Standard is the Association’s signature safety resource and provides one more tool in the toolbox to ensure that climber training is consistent regardless of who is conducting the training.”
