Nautel Confirms Layoffs

Transmission manufacturer “fine-tuning” for the future

Transmission equipment manufacturer Nautel has laid-off 12 people, the company confirmed to Radio World.

Nautel employs about 200 people total.

Five people were let go from Nautel’s production facility in Bangor, Maine and another seven from the Halifax, Novia Scotia plant.

Nautel Spokesman John Whyte says the company periodically reviews the skill-sets of its employees, in order to plan for future needs. In this case, the layoffs were “fine-tuning.”

“We need to have the right people in the right positions,” Whyte said today, noting that Nautel has been through a lot of growth in the past few years.

A rumor that more people, some 17, were let go was “absolutely untrue,” he said, adding no more cuts are planned.

Formed in 1970, the company manufacturers AM, FM, HD Radio, DRM and now television transmission equipment. Nautel is based in Hackett’s Cove, Nova Scotia.
