NDS, Frontier Silicon Cooperate on Content Protection for Digital Radio

NDS and Frontier Silicon have signed a deal to develop secure content protection and digital rights management for the Eureka-147 digital radio technology and mobile digital TT.
NDS makes secure content delivery technology for digital pay-TV. Frontier Silicon makes semiconductors.
The companies say the agreement will address security concerns that program providers have in releasing premium content into the DAB and mobile digital TV markets.
They plan to develop a system with content encoded at the head end, transmitted and securely received or consumed by users with appropriate digital rights. The companies are exhibiting at the IBC convention in Amsterdam this month.
“The content download business model will only be viable if chipset and conditional access/digital rights management developers work closely together,” states Frontier Silicon CEO Anthony Sethill.
