Various interests involved in the bird/tower debate have been negotiating and now have asked the commission to delay its comment deadlines.
The FCC has agreed and extended the deadlines to comment on the effects of communication towers on migratory birds. The original comment deadline was Jan. 22.
The American Bird Conservancy, CTIA – The Wireless Association, Defenders of Wildlife, Environmental Defense, NAB, National Audubon Society, the National Association of Tower Erectors and PCIA – The Wireless Infrastructure Association sent the FCC a combined request for a 90-day extension, to April 23 for comments and May 23 for replies.
The commission granted the request and those are the new due dates in Wireless Bureau Docket 03-187.
The groups said they’ve been negotiating about avian tower safety and an extension would be in the public interest.
