Networking Organizations to Merge

Networking Organizations to Merge

The MPLS & Frame Relay Alliance and The ATM Forum will form one organization. Its goal: “to advance the deployment of multi-vendor, multi-service, packet-based networks, associated applications and interworking solutions.”
The organizations, meeting in Salt Lake City, said they want to create a unified industry association. Members will be asked to approve the merger, which is to be complete by the end of the year.
The ATM Forum lobbies for the deployment of Asynchronous Transfer Mode and other technologies as the foundation for broadband networks. The MPLS & Frame Relay Alliance pushes its technologies to the global telecom industry.
The benefit of the merger, they said, is that there will be one body creating implementation agreements, thus helping public network vendors and carriers.
