Neural-AMR-WB+ Is a Very Low Bit Rate Codec

Neural Audio and VoiceAge say they have developed the world’s highest-performance low bit rate coding offering.

Neural Audio and VoiceAge say they have developed the world’s highest-performance low bit rate coding offering.

Proponents say Neural–AMR-WB+ offers expanded revenue opportunities for broadcasters on the Internet, FM and now AM.

Neural–AMR-WB+ provides digital broadcasts and stereo music streaming at bit rates of 6 to 48 kbps, lowering the bandwidth needed for providing more content over broadcast media including the Internet, according to the companies.

The companies say AM, FM and HD Radio broadcasters can offer specialized channels for sports broadcasts, weather, traffic or a radio reading service using the station’s existing infrastructure.

VoiceAge makes speech and audio compression technologies that are used in wireless devices. Neural–AMR-WB+ builds on this base to deliver high-quality digital radio streaming to consumer devices, such as mobile handsets and WiFi-enabled portable devices.
