New Catholic University in Florida Will Have a Radio Station

Tom Monaghan is building a Catholic University in southwest Florida. Now the new school has a radio station.
WNRW(FM) is licensed to Ave Maria University, which completed the purchase of the station in San Carlos Park. The signal serves Ft. Myers, Naples and Marco Island.
The seller was Bel Meade Broadcasting; the price tag was $4.9 million, according to the broker for the buyer, Austin P. Walsh of Media Services Group.
Monaghan, founder of Domino’s Pizza, agreed to donate $200 million to start the university near Naples, according to the announcement in 2002, and is giving additional millions to develop a town around the campus
A small number of students have begun taking classes at interim facilities, with the university expected to open in 2006 – the first new Catholic university in 40 years. The existing Ave Maria College in Ypsilanti, Mich., will be phased out.
