New Deadline to File Broadcast Ownership Form Is Jan. 11

FCC pushes due date back

The Federal Communications Commission has pushed back the due date for its new broadcast ownership form to Jan. 11, 2010. It did not address concerns some have expressed that social security numbers are now required as part of the filing process.

The previous due date for commercial radio and television licensees to file their Biennial Ownership Reports on revised FCC Form 323 was Dec. 15, 2009.

This announcement comes as a relief to licensees of commercial broadcast stations given that the electronic version of revised FCC Form 323 is not yet available on the FCC’s CDBS system for uploading of data. The Media Bureau is testing the form and has delayed the release of the electronic version until the testing is complete.

The commission will publicize when the electronic version of the new form is available on its Form 323 Web page at www.fcc.gov/form323.

In its Nov. 23 statement, the FCC said several filers have filed the outdated version of Form 323 in an attempt to satisfy the 2009 biennial filing deadline. The agency said that version doesn’t count and those who used the old form must refile using the new form.

The FCC urges members of the public to continue to submit questions regarding the new form and filing procedures to Form323@fcc.gov.
