New Digital Radio Guidelines Released

Procedures for deploying digital radio issued at end of Jakarta workshop

New guidelines for deploying digital radio were outlined during a four-day DAB+ technology workshop recently held in Jakarta.

Organized by the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union, WorldDMB, the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology of Indonesia and Radio Republic Indonesia, the event, which also featured transmission demonstrations, served as a venue to establish recommendations on steps necessary when moving toward planning for the successful implementation of digital radio services.

The recommendations, said the ABU, will be circulated among ABU members and other stakeholders providing guidelines in deploying digital radio services.

More than 55 industry players, including radio broadcasters and regulators, from Southeast Asia attended the workshop. The event began with the a two-day technology workshop, followed by a two-day transmission demonstration using a DAB+ transmitter installed at RRI’s facility to conduct field measurements in and around the city of Jakarta.

Industry partners such as Commercial Radio Australia, Harris, ATDI, KeyStone Semiconductor Corp., Factum Electronics, Radioscape and Southern Cross Austereo supported the event.
