New HD Radio Tuner Box Turns Satellite-Ready Head Units Into Digital AM/FM Receivers

New HD Radio Tuner Box Turns Satellite-Ready Head Units Into Digital AM/FM Receivers

Ibiquity Digital says it has developed a reference design for a universal tuner box that plugs into satellite-ready head units. This lets them receive digital AM and FM signals as well as FM multicast signals. The company said at the CES show this week that the product will be compatible with more than 200 OEM and aftermarket auto receivers.
The HD Radio tuner will be compatible with factory-installed receivers — including those from Chrysler, Ford and GM — and aftermarket receivers from companies such as Panasonic, Kenwood, Alpine, Pioneer and Sony. No special antennas or other accessories are required.
