Gordon Smith
New NAB President/CEO Gordon Smith received a standing ovation from several hundred attendees at The NAB Radio Show as the event opened on Wednesday. He met the association staff this week and says he wants to hit the ground running, advocating for broadcasters.
The former two-term Republican U.S. Senator from Oregon said he’s used to reaching across the aisle to get things done. Smith said he’s aware of the public service that free, over-the-air broadcasters provide, and he knows that part of his job is making sure that regulators and the public understand how much broadcasters do for their communities.
“You are the glue that connects” your friends and families, he said, calling himself a “chief advocate for America’s broadcasters.”
Getting content on different platforms, like streaming and FM on cellphones, are the future of radio, he said.
Smith spoke for just over 10 minutes and ended with “I can’t wait to get started.”
