New Orleans Noncoms Can Re-Air Commercial Material

New Orleans Noncoms Can Re-Air Commercial Material

In order to allow noncommercial radio and TV stations in New Orleans to air public service information for the victims of Katrina, the FCC is allowing those stations to rebroadcast commercial programming and commercials.
The relief is aimed at making it possible to bring lifesaving info to the residents of New Orleans quickly, the commission said, and help broadcasters cooperate with each other in airing such information.
Previously, noncoms in New Orleans could not air promotional announcements or commercial matter on behalf of for-profit entities. The suspension expires on Nov. 1.
