The newest radio station in Ireland is all-digital.
Total Broadcast Consultants built the facility, which it calls the country’s first all-digital radio station. i102-104 is based in Galway and serves the region with 10 FM transmitters.
“From CD players and playout system, all the way through the air chain to the transmitter network via mixing desks, routers, audio processing, studio-transmitter links etc., the signal never leaves the digital domain,” the company said.
“In the studios, the only analog items are the microphones, and the broadcast signal only becomes analog within the stereo coders. Mixing desks are Klotz Digital Aeons, audio processing is by Orban Optimod-FM8500, Optimod-FM2300 and Optimod-PC1100 units, all of which receive and send their audio in AES/EBU format.”
