New TIS Stations Guide Visitors to Flight 93 Memorial

Two stations, Bedford and Somerset, Pa., will be located along turnpike

Two Travel Information Services stations will be added along the Pennsylvania Turnpike, according to Radio Source, a TIS-focused publication from Information Station Specialists, contractor for the project. These will be added to help visitors locate the new Flight 93 Memorial, according to the National Park Service.

The two TIS stations will be located at Pennsylvania Turnpike facilities at Bedford (Exit 146) and Somerset (Exit 110), Pennsylvania, and will be managed remotely from memorial administration offices at nearby Stoystown.

Information Station Specialists provided the project’s frequency coordination and will install the equipment at Turnpike facilities this fall. The design enables completed programs to be transferred to the stations via wireless/IP methodology, which marks the first time the agency has used wireless to manage an information radio system.

Procurement is being coordinated through the U.S. Department of Transportation in Cambridge, Mass.
